Freak Flags

After a time back in port for more work on EcstaSea, we felt the call of Yemaya and some slow, sweet anchor out time. So we headed out for the island of Ibiza as it is one of our favorite places here in the Med. It is only 70 miles away and the north coast is particularly wild and beautiful. So we landed in one of our all time favorite coves called Cala Blanca. It is named for the white cliffs all around and has the clearest blue water and white sand. Several days of swimming and gorgeous sunsets and we were refreshed once again.
Now everyone knows that Ibiza is where all of the old hippies have retired to, and the new age hippy youngsters are alive and thriving here also. Perhaps that is some of the attraction for us as we feel we fit right in. Now just a few coves down from where we were, there is a cove called Benirras Beach where many people gather at sunset to drum the sun down. And of course, we had to go there and experience "the experience". So we anchored in Benirras for several nights and went to shore every evening for sunset.
They say that the big rock in the center resembles Queen Victoria sitting on her throne watching the sun go down.
The first night we were fortunate to join in with the drummers and a shaman leading a ceremony for unity and world peace. So cool to participate and feel the wanting of "Oneness" irregardless of the different countries, nationalities, or language. The next night was a smaller gathering and on Sunday night it seemed as if the whole island showed up here on this beach to drum and dance at sunset.

Now remember that we are in the midst of Hippy Haven and Jimi Hendrix said it best when he sang about letting your freak flag fly. He could have been singing to all of us here on this beach, as "freak-ness" abounds. So many unique, interesting individuals showing up authentically and allowing us all to witness their "freak flag" flying freely. Now don't get us wrong--don't think that we don't know that our own freak flag is flying high. Our own unique selves may appear freaky to others--hell, it appears freaky to us at times. But we want to fly it as freely and authentically as possible...or at least that is the story we tell ourselves....realizing that our own authenticity is always evolving and changing.

So here we all were....drumming and dancing and no one self consciousness, no one caring what others might think.  All dancing to the beat of a different drummer...and all together with many drums and dances creating rhythm, harmony and a common beat. And all together thanking Brother Sun for another day of living and loving.
